Filter by Color in Excel
Learn how to filter by cell color, font color, and conditional formatting color in Excel reports and cleanup workflows.
What Filter by Color Does
- Filter by Color shows only rows with a selected fill color or font color. It is useful when colors represent status, risk, priority, or review notes.
Filter by Cell Color
- Turn on filters, open the filter arrow, then choose: Filter by Color -> Cell Color Pick the color you want to display.
Filter Conditional Formatting Colors
- If conditional formatting applies the color, Excel can usually filter by that displayed color. This is useful for overdue dates, duplicates, high values, and exception reports.
Color Filters Are Not Data
- Color can help people read a report, but formulas and dashboards should rely on real status fields when possible. Use a Status column for reliable analysis and color as a visual layer.
